GLOBAL INSURANCE BROKER TURNS TO OPTIMA FOR PARTITIONING SYSTEM
When Lockton, the world’s largest, privately owned independent insurance broker, agreed to a 20-year lease of office space at the new St. Botolph building, an exceptional partitioning system was required to create a modern and highly functional workspace. With aesthetic appeal and sound isolation of utmost importance, architects HOK specified a range of advanced partitioning systems from Optima, the UK’s leading developer of partitioning systems.
Designed by architects Grimshaw and developed for Minerva plc, St. Botolph is a landmark office development offering 500,000 sq ft of office space. Having secured 84,000 sq ft of space, Lockton appointed HOK to design an impressive new working environment. This included the specification of an internal partitioning system that would provide a stunning visual effect and acoustic performance. To meet these requirements Optima provided a range of products including its Revolution 97 advanced partitioning system.
Main contractor ISG completed the high quality installation across two floors of the building, creating an elegant reception, general office space and a series of meeting rooms. With a range of Optima products specified, ISG was able to create a sleek, 21st Century working environment for Lockton’s employees, clients and visitors.
Optima’s Revolution 97 system is a high performance, demountable partitioning system. Incredibly flexible, it is available in single or double glazed units to suit clients’ specific acoustic and aesthetic requirements. At the St. Botolph Building, Optima Revolution 97 double glazed panels were used for the executive offices, alongside Optima 117 single glazed panels to create meeting rooms and general office space.
The Revolution 97 system has been engineered to offer ultra thin profiles that minimises the space that the system take up. This helps create aesthetically pleasing lines that combine with the panel’s excellent sound reduction qualities so that important board meetings and interviews can take place in the strictest confidence.
For the meeting rooms and general offices, Optima 117 was specified for its ability to create the illusion of large areas of unsupported glass. By using minimal head and base channels and discreet glass to glass joints the partitioning system produces a stunning visual finish.
Complete with a full set of aluminium fittings, the Optima partitioning systems required no third party elements. As a final technical flourish, the panels are available with an innovative aluminium extruded deflected head. This offers a tolerance of +/-20mm, ensuring the panels do not suffer stress as a result of normal building movement.
As part of the creation of the meeting rooms, a drywall system had been chosen and Optima was tasked with providing a stylish partitioning solution that would maintain a perfectly smooth finish when joining the glass panels with the solid walls. To achieve this, Optima engineered its Revolution 97 system by increasing the cavity size to match the thickness of the drywall system.
To complement the appearance of the Revolution 97 and Optima 117 partitions and to provide elegant entrances into each individual office space, Optima single glazed doors were installed. Set into a Microflush door frame, the doors feature very little visible ironmongery to complete the striking appearance of the virtually frameless Optima partitioning systems.
Optima brings a wealth of partitioning experience to every project, both acoustic and decorative, and focuses on providing the most suitable solution every time. The Lockton office is a prime example of when internal partitions can perfectly create modern workspaces to reflect the client’s vision, creating a dynamic working environment for the insurance brokers and its staff.
